Hello, I'm Lynn Otteson...
Tonopah Nevada is famous for it's silver strikes, but it also is WORLD FAMOUS for it's turquoise deposits. The whisper of buried blue treasure called me in 1958, and I moved to
Tonopah Nevada to seek my fame and fortune , and some say I've become a legend in the turquoise world. I was born in Sanford Colorado in 1925, and raised near the Manassa King mine. I learned to read rock formations and was struck with mining fever. I have covered the desert on foot, scouting turquoise for decades. Walking all day, I have found many pockets and veins of the beautiful and unique mineral we call Turquoise. I have passed on my knowledge, and schooled my sons in the turquoise business. I have prospected and mined turquoise in the high deserts of Central Nevada for decades, even after losing half my foot in a gun battle in Goldfield Nevada. My son and partner Dean Otteson, operates the mines, hand picks the turquoise rock, cuts and polishes it into magnificent stones to be made into jewelry. His wife Donna who owns the Otteson's Turquoise store has the stones set into beautifully crafted sterling silver and gold jewelry for everyone to enjoy. Otteson's Turquoise has many turquoise mining claims with a variety of color and quality to satisfy our customers. Royston Turquoise is one of the finest in the world. Color ranges from blues to greens with or without matrix. Matrix is golden brown. Our store, is located in The Golden Building, and is a historical landmark. The Golden Building was built in 1902 ,and it was the first, substantial, stone, commercial building erected in Tonopah. It was named after Frank Golden, an early businessman and banker. The building predates both the historic Mizpah Hotel which opened in 1907 and the historic Belvada Hotel, built in 1906. The Golden Building was first occupied by the Nye County Bank, the first bank in Tonopah.
We are located on Hwy 95's historic "Four Corners" in the center of Tonopah Nevada. Our jewelry
is made from locally mined, and certified authentic stones, including our gorgeous White Buffalo, which is very rare and unique. Found by us seven years ago, White Buffalo is known for it's unique color and glossy shine. Color varies from pure white to marbled gray or light brown. According to geologist this the only known deposit of this mix of minerals in the world. It comes out of the same location as the Black Hills Turquoise which is the most sought turquoise with its beautiful blue
color and black spider web matrix. All of our stones have been locally mined within the Tonopah Nevada area since 1961.
